Some history I remember my first Licks burger when I came to Canada, my uncle took me to a now closed location.  The restaurant looked like it was out of the 50s malt shop era, with the employees singing away with every order and oldies playing in the background.

But with all that the food was the star, the amazing home burger.   Here was this beefy patty with a hints of black pepper, and I always loved their Guc garlic mayo with lettuce on their sesame toasted bun that would soak up everything.  Large finger fries that would give any moms homemade fries some competition....and of course a large cold Coke with ice.  Thats a fond memory I have, I also used to buy their burgers frozen because they were that good.

Sadly due to competition, inflation and the just the times trying to run a franchisee and making a profit became its downfall.  location after location closed.....it now had been years without a location in Toronto or anywhere I thought..........

Until one day transiting on a ttc bus, what do I see but a sign with the same licks logo saying we're open.   I make sure to go there two weeks later when I had some time.

The location is smaller and had some of the classic signage....but all I needed to know was ....was the homeburger back.   This licks does all its burgers fresh not frozen.   So I get a homeburger with garlic mayo and lettuce, onion rings and coke.

But alas it was not meant to be the homeburger patty was not the same at all....but burger bun was perfect, the garlic mayo great.....but the patty was just okay.  Onion rings are stand fair.   Oh well I'll always have those memories.

I don't come here too often but when I do, the service is great and the food is always prepared fresh upon ordering.

I always go with the 5oz Homeburger and make it a combo with fries and a drink, which never disappoints.

I'm curious to try their veggie burger next time.

    Keep up the good service!

I really wanted to like this place, but it definitely fell short.

I know that the family who originally started the business sold it, but all the locations have definitely took a turn for the worst.

Our cashier Andy,  was not the most welcoming.
We asked her if their veggie burgers were meant to taste like meat, and she was so confused by our question that she kind of dismissed us. We kindly explained to her, that some veggie burgers do try to taste like meat, while others try to taste like veggies, so we just wanted to clarify.

We ordered 1 Veggies on a Bun combo and Homeburger Combo. ( side note, ( Veggies on a Bun is not on the menu, but if you ask nicely they will give it to you, plus cheese is included )

The service was also pretty slow here, I tried not to mind it because I knew I was getting a fresh burger and fries.

The food was just okkkk, honestly nothing amazing. The Homeburger itself did not taste very fresh and the fries are now the standard Costco fries ( which are ok, but I miss they fresh fries they used to make )

Overall, it was wasn't the best experience, and it's pretty doubtful I would return.

I honestly think everyone would be better off if Lick's just sold their frozen patties and signature Guk Sauce in grocery stores.

Dinner tonight was at Lick's Homeburgers!

I ordered the $8.95 Engagement Burger with 8oz of fresh beef and upgraded to a combo for $3.95 which adds fries and a fountain drink.  Onion rings instead of fries was an additional $0.75.  Total meal was $15.42 and I ate in.

My order was quickly taken and fulfilled.  I chose what toppings to add to my burger from a vast selection.

The fountain drink is unlimited but they have several other drink options at various prices.

The dining area seats about 26 guests and the decor was hip.  A flat screen TV was tuned to CP24.

My burger was very tasty as were the rings (A&W rings still reign supreme so far)!

    An enjoyable overall meal experience.

It was my first time ever going to a licks. I ended up ordering the 8oz burger and onion rings combo.

The food wasn't bad. I had high expectations of the patty because my husband kept telling me how amazing Licks was when he used to go a few years back. After having the burger not sure what his burger expectations were. The burger was not super juicy but the flavour was just ok. It was nothing to write home about. However, this could of changed if they didn't go skimpy on the sauces I asked for. The onion rings were very good, light golden crispy batter was delicious.

I would try it again but maybe extra sauce next time.
